Back when vSphere 7.x was released and Image-Based clusters were introduced there have been many improvements to the lifecycle functionality. One of the features I recently discovered having a Single Host (Standalone) Image versus only having it cluster-based.

In my homelab I’m running vSphere 8.0 U3 and adding a standalone host at the Datacenter level, here are my options
- Composing a new image will allow you to import an image from the vLCM Image repository.
- Import Image from existing will image the host from an existing host or cluster.
- Using the current image, keeps the image already installed.

We will be selecting option ‘3’ so that we can lifecycle it later on.
Once the host has been added, you can see the Updates section, it now has an Image

In vSphere Lifecycle Manager you can also find remediation settings as well.
